FAQS

Which children does the Foundation support?

Mercy’s Mighty Foundation supports children within England and Wales who have been diagnosed with a DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Giloma) brain tumour.

My child doesn’t have a DIPG brain tumour – can I still access support from The Foundation?

Unfortunately, at this time we are only able to support children diagnosed  with a DIPG brain tumour, however this is something we will constantly evaluate and may include other paediatric brain tumour patients in the future.

My child has a DIPG brain tumour – How do I get a Dream Box and Smyths toy store voucher sent to them?

All referrals for Dream Boxes and Smyths Vouchers must come into the foundation via a registered healthcare professional or social worker, this ensures that the foundation remains accountable and has conducted the necessary due diligence.

We aim to keep the referral process really simple, so please advise a healthcare professional or social worker at the hospital your child is being treated to simply email us some details and we will get in touch with you after receiving the referral from them.

Healthcare professionals and Social workers can also contact us direct and our referral process can be accessed here.

What is your referral process?

Our referral process can be accessed here. We aim to make contact within 72 hours of a referral.

How will the Dream Box and Smyths Voucher be sent out to children?

The Dream Box (containing age suitable crafts) will be dispatched via Evri or Parcel-force to the address listed on the referral form. It may also be sent to a hospital ward if the child is an in-patient meaning no child misses out, where-ever they are on their DIPG journey.

Please note all Dream Boxes will require a signature upon delivery.

The Smyths Toy Store voucher will be emailed electronically to the email address provided on the referral form for the child’s parent or guardian. The voucher can be used online or in store as soon as it is received.

Can I request an alternative to the Dream Box or Smyths Toy Store voucher?

The items we sent out to children diagnosed with a DIPG brain tumour reflect the passions and personality of Mercy Cuthbertson, who this charity was set up in memory of. We aim to promote her legacy through giving other children stimulation and enjoyment doing the things she loved doing.

There is no alternative or cash alternative to the Dream Box and Smyths Voucher.

If my child is eligible for a respite break how do we access and book this?

The Foundation will make contact with the Parent or Guardian listed on the referral from and explore/discuss options with them. The Foundation will act as the booking agent and provide booking details to the parent / guardian of the child.

We aim to make contact within 72 hours of a referral. Please note there is no cash alternative to the respite break.
